Karl joined Qatalyst in June 2015. He has 11 years of M&A and technology investment banking experience in the United States and Europe. Previously, Karl worked in the Technology Investment Banking group at Morgan Stanley in New York and the Mergers & Acquisitions group at UBS in both New York and London.
Karl has advised on M&A and financing transactions with aggregate value totaling more than $115B. Since joining Qatalyst, Karl has advised SignalFX on its $1.1B sale to Splunk, Looker on its $2.6B sale to Google, MINDBODY on its $1.9B sale to Vista Equity, Qualtrics on its $8.0B sale to SAP, Apptio on its $1.9B sale to Vista Equity, Datorama on its sale to Salesforce, CallidusCloud on its $2.5B sale to SAP, NXP Semiconductors on its terminated $48.4B sale to Qualcomm, Moat on its sale to Oracle, Linear Technology on its $14.8B sale to Analog Devices, NetSuite on its $9.4B sale to Oracle, QLogic on its $1.4B sale to Cavium, Opower on its $621MM sale to Oracle, SolidFire on its $870MM sale to NetApp and PMC-Sierra on its $2.5B sale to Microsemi. Prior to Qatalyst, Karl’s transaction experience in the technology sector includes advising on the IPOs of Shopify and OnDeck as well as advisory and financing assignments for ASMPT, EMC, Forrester Research, HomeAway, Orbitz and Sensata, among others. Beyond the technology sector, his strategic advisory experience includes Anglo American’s sale of stakes in Anglo American Sur, Anglo American’s acquisition of a 40% stake in De Beers, UPM-Kymmene’s acquisition of Myllykoski, Anglo American’s sale of Moly-Cop and AltaSteel, Trilantic Capital Partners’ sale of MWBrands and Anglo American’s sale of its zinc assets.
Karl is originally from Sydney, Australia and holds a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honors) and Bachelor of Commerce (First Class Honors) from the University of Sydney and a Masters in Financial Economics (Distinction) from the University of Oxford.
